Natalie Maines has released a cover The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” for the series finale of BIG LOVE-the theme song for the show’s first three seasons.
The cover was recorded in Malibu by uber-producer Rick Rubin with special guest, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chilli Peppers on drums.
The slow tempo cover is a work of art. As hard as it is to take a well known song that really moves, Maines pushes the true emotion of the lyric. The addition of the Country arrangement to a pop rock song just works.
Maines hits a homerun with “God Only Knows.” Check out the song during the series finale March 20th on HBO and on the HBO promo below.
