What happens after The Voice? What was momentum of your music?
Kat Perkins: “We had already been planning… I mean, I was assembling a team by the time I made the live shows. I knew I needed help when it was done. I knew I wanted to jump back into full-time music. I needed to be done nannying and I needed to do it again. I would be stupid if I didn’t try to ride the momentum and do what I love to do again. So we thought carefully and we had a lot of really cool plans, and the timeline worked out great. I didn’t have to do the Voice Tour, which was really a huge blessing for me even though I missed my friends. It was fun to see them go on the tour. I didn’t go. I got to use that time to find my single and record in the studio and have everything ready to go by mid-August. It was perfect. My contract was up. The new season didn’t start until September and I wanted to get everything out there before the new season started and use my Twitter and Social Media momentum to be able to sell copies. It literally worked out perfectly. I couldn’t be happier with how it ended up with the single that came out and using the momentum.”
There was no stopping Kat Perkins after being propelled. Having to push her music all on her own did not stop her. Kat’s first single ‘Fearless’ hit #5 upon release on the iTunes charts in 2014 – released independently and produced by John Fields (Pink, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez).
July 10th 2015 – NBC’s The Voice Season 6 top 5 contestant Kat Perkins has just released her new self-titled full length album. The album’s first single “Drive” was released in June to rave reviews. “It’s about freedom” says Perkins. “For me, there is just this feeling that fills you when you’re behind the wheel. You can really go anywhere.” Kat also recently premiered her new music video for “Drive.”

There is an overall, unique feeling among the eight tracks of Kat Perkins. The dynamic of the stories told range from the struggles of rural, small town life in North Dakota to the anticipation, excitement, and triumphs that come from making it in the big city. Kat’s lyrics are a blend of raw release and strong statements, “The broken door pulls at the hinge, a closet, hide the young ones in,” from “Main Street, and “I gotta have all I can hold,” from “Drive.” From beginning to end it is evident that Kat’s vulnerability, heart, and soul are in this album. She takes bold risks from the lyrical structure of the songs to the musical arrangements supporting her words. In fact, it’s hard to compare Kat Perkins to any album out there, having a life and breath all it’s own, wrapping with “Let’s Get On The Road.” This song couldn’t be closer to Kat’s experiences, “Working real hard six nights a week and playing harder on the seventh one… lets get on the road.”
“If you live, live fearless. If you love, love fearless” – Kat Perkins
